Our program on Distracted Driving provides the information employees need to drive cars, vans and small trucks safely, both on and off the job. Distracted driving is not a new problem, but the increasing use of cellphones and other electronic devices has caused it to grow alarmingly in recent years… and so has the toll it has taken in road accidents, injuries and lost lives. In fact, today as many as one in three accidents involve distracted drivers. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration defines distracted drivers as those who engage in "any activity that could divert a person's attention away from the primary task of driving." And plenty of us fit that description. Fortunately, there are ways we can reverse the increases we are seeing in distracted driving accidents.

Areas included in the program include information on the cost of distracted driving, multi-tasking and distraction, the dangers of using cell phones while driving, ways to eliminate distractions before you drive, how to fight distraction on the road and more.

This course presents information about the things that can lead to distracted driving, practical ways that employees can eliminate distracting behaviors from their own driving and how to avoid the hazards that other, distracted drivers can create. Upon completing this course, employees should:

- Recognize the three types of driver distractions.
- Be able to explain how distraction can result from specific driver behaviors.
- Understand how to avoid becoming distracted when they are driving.
- Know how to protect themselves from other, distracted drivers.
