DiSC Overview

With more than one million assessment takers each year, Everything DiSC® is an excellent assessment tool to improve work productivity, teamwork and communication. The DiSC profile is a non-judgemental tool used for discussion of people's behavioral differences. If you participate in a DiSC program, you'll be asked to complete a series of questions that produce a detailed report about your personality and behavior.

The report uses easy-to-understand language that helps people better understand themselves and how they interact with others.

DiSC Measurement

DiSC measures your tendencies and preferences — your patterns of behavior. It does not measure intelligence, aptitude, mental health or values. DiSC profiles describe human behavior in various situations. For example, the DiSC questionnaire asks about how you respond to challenges, how you influence others, how you respond to rules and procedures, and about your preferred pace of activity. It does not measure every dimension of your personality.

Understanding DiSC

DiSC® is an acronym that represents four distinct personality styles. You may have a combination of more than one style. All personality styles have their strengths and challenges.

Dominance

The D style has a strong drive and therefore needs to be challenged. They are results and bottom-line oriented because they already grasp the whole picture. D’s are confident, direct, decisive and often risk takers. A common perception of D’s is that they seem to be impatient. D’s are always trying to find out as much information about a situation as possible.

  • Gets straight to the point

Influence

I’s are skilled in the art of persuasion. They are sociable and relational. They may be perceived as impulsive and disorganized as they share their ideas, but are accepting of others’ opinions and values. They approach their work with enthusiasm and optimism, and enjoy being encouragers to their teammates.

Steadiness

S’s are stable, sincere members of the team. Their strengths lie in loyalty, cooperation and dependability. They approach their work systematically and calmly. However, they can be perceived as overly accommodating and indecisive.

  • Supportive actions

Conscientiousnes

C’s are very independent workers who use objective reasoning to analyze details. They are concerned about quality and accuracy and as a result, they can be perceived as slow and critical because of their tendency to be questioning. They are reserved in their judgment and can often fear making wrong decisions.

Module 1:

Leaders and Raters

Leaders and Raters

Leaders are given a two-part online profile assessment: The Everything DiSC assessment and the Leadership Behavior section about how they tend to lead.

Raters are given a two-part online assessment: the same Leadership Behavior section that the leader takes and the Leadership Requests section that asks which leadership practices they’d like to see the leader do more of.

Raters are broken into four groups: Direct Reports, Peers, Manager, and Other. Any combination of groups may be used and leaders can have an unlimited number of raters.
